During the fall of 2007, the Hogan Family and the City of Boulder agreed to establish a Conservation Easement for the Hogan Ranch. The conservation easement was established to permanently preserve Hogan Ranch’s scenic open space, wildlife and plant habitat, agricultural character, and overall environmental quality. It does so by limiting certain development rights while allowing compatible ranching and residential uses within defined areas, and by granting the City of Boulder specific oversight and enforcement rights to ensure these conservation purposes endure in perpetuity.
While any Conservation Easement entails tradeoffs, the Hogan Family firmly believes that the benefits of their agreement with the City of Boulder far outweigh the limitations. The easement not only safeguards the land’s pristine natural character but also enables the thoughtful development of world-class estates within an exclusive neighborhood. By preserving the ranch’s rustic beauty and protecting it alongside neighboring open space, the easement ensures both long-term value and enduring rarity. The very guidelines designed to preserve the integrity of the land are the same principles that will secure the lasting appeal of this unique opportunity.
